Unique Wedding Cakes

Not long ago, a unique wedding cake was one that actually tasted like a dessert. With the 21st century trend that focuses on the individual, though, why not create a cake that reflects you or your wedding?

The great thing about a wedding cake is that anything goes. You do not have to be limited to the tiered model of tradition. A personalized, unique wedding cake will be memorable for your guests and it will look great in pictures. The only problem may be that you might not want to destroy the work of art by eating it!

It might be that the idea of a thematic wedding cake seems a bit of a reach, but the fact is that if you choose your bakery carefully (always ask to see pictures of previous work!) they will be able to accommodate your desires. I have been to weddings where the couple owned birds, and had their wedding cake shaped like two lovebirds. I have seen cakes shaped as sofas, castles, dolls, the bride and groom, even a cake map of the couple’s honeymoon destination!

If a specialized shape of wedding cake proves too much for your budget or for the bakery, however, there are many variations on the standard wedding cake design that can make a wedding cake unique and memorable. Wedding cakes can be tiered in any number of sizes and with any number of tiers. You can match the colors on the cake to that of your wedding. There are many different ornamental additions that can be applied to your cake to give it a different look; mini-pillars, crystal stands, and separate cakes can all be utilized for a unique look.

Another tool to keep in mind when going for a unique wedding cake look is the use of sugar decorations. Sugar decorations are also available in many varieties. If you are having a beach wedding, you can have your cake decorated to reflect the beach theme, with sugar seashells and starfish. You might even consider asking for icing that gives the appearance of sand!

The wedding cake topper and other non edible decorations are a final way that you can add a unique touch to your wedding cake. Most wedding cakes feature a topper depicting a bride and groom. You do not have to go with this if you would rather have a wedding cake that reflects your own unique occasion. These toppers can be anything you want them to be.

If you are getting married around the Thanksgiving holiday, a wedding cake topper in the shape of a cornucopia would reflect the occasion accordingly. Other decorations can be applied to create a unique wedding cake. If you love horses, you could buy toy horses and place them tastefully around the tiers. This makes for great favors for children attending the wedding too.

The only limit to your unique wedding cake creation is your imagination. The right combination of flavor and design can make for a truly sweet memory!
